Add a custom wood burned scene to the face of your mantel. The fireplace shown
below has a Basswood mantel with a colored scene on the face. A close-up of the Ruffed
Grouse scene is also shown below.

Our wood burning scenes are done by a local artist and are available with or without coloring. Scenes can be done on any species of mantel, but if the scene is not colored it may not show up well on a Walnut or Mahogany mantel. Mantels that are draw knifed, carved or square will show the scenes best. The surface of a natural faced mantel is often too dark to allow a scene to show up well.
The scene will be about 12 inches long and is normally centered on the mantel unless a different location is desired if a knot on the face of the mantel interferes. The scene will cover the full 4 inch thickness of the mantel. The detail and lifelike quality of the art often makes people think that it is done with a laser, but the uneven surface of the wood makes that impractical.
There are a variety of scenes which may be used and the artist is willing to work with any ideas that you may have. In some cases he has worked from a photograph provided by the customer. The end result will not be an exact reproduction of the photo but the essence and character of the picture will be on the mantel.
Our most popular scene, "Deer in pond", is shown below in color-

This scene has also been done quite often without coloring. The picture below shows an expanded version, with a river instead of a pond, extra wildlife and more vegetation. A close-up of the Deer in this scene is also shown.

Shown below are line drawings of other scenes that that have been used-

Two styles of wooden mounting brackets are available for our Log Style mantels. The "Mantels Description" link offers some suggestions on mounting techniques that may not require a separate bracket. In many cases the carpenter or mason who is building the fireplace will have his own ideas (with or without brackets) on how the mantel should be installed and we recommend that you listen to their suggestions. If you need a bracket,or if you just prefer the look of a wood bracket, here is what we have available.
SQUARE BRACKET- These brackets are 4 inches square and 24 inches long and come in either draw knife or carved style. They are available in the same species as the mantels. These brackets normally should be installed while the fireplace is under construction since they will be fastened to wall studs or imbedded in masonry. The bracket is carved on three sides and the end. The fourth side is flat and the mantel will rest on it and may be fastened with construction adhesive or long screws.

TRIANGLE BRACKET- These brackets are about 8 x 10 inches and 4
inches thick. They can be installed before the face material, or if the surface of the
stone or brick is relatively flat, they may be installed after the face is up. These
brackets are available in all of our mantel species and styles.
If the fireplace face is already finished, this bracket may be fastened with
screws and anchors directly to the face through the use of slotted mounting bracket
(available at your local hardware store) which can be connected to the back side of the
bracket. The mantel will then sit on top of the bracket.

All styles, species and types of brackets are $20 each.
For mantels up to 7 feet long, 2 brackets are usually used, but more might be needed depending on the weight of the mantel you choose.
